WORLD CHALLENGE 09
World Challenge 09 is a global competition aimed at projects showing enterprise and innovation at grassroots level. Brought to you in association with Shell, BBC World and Newsweek, World Challenge is now in its fifth consecutive year and is accepting entries until May 22nd.
The various stages to World Challenge 09 are as follows;
1 - Nomination Stage - 16th February 2009 to 22nd May 2009
Nominations open on 16th February 2009 and must be received by midnight on 22nd May 2009. During this stage BBC World News and Newsweek will be profiling the 12 finalists chosen in competition last year. These are great examples of the type of project/small business World Challenge 09 is looking for.
2 - Judging Stage - 1st June 2009 to 22nd June 2009
From all the entries that we receive, a representative of BBC World News and the Producers will select a shortlist of 60 entries for the judging panel to consider. The judging panel will pick 12 finalists. Details of the finalists of World Challenge 09 will be published on this website on 22nd June 2009.
3 - Voting Stage - 28th September 2009 to 13th November 2009
The finalists of World Challenge 09 will be profiled on air in BBC World News in six 30 minute programmes, on this website and in Newsweek (dates TBC). You can vote for your favourite project/business on this website. Voting will open on 28th September 2009 and will close at midnight (GMT) on 13th November 2009.
4 - Winners Announced - 5th December 2009
The Winner and two runners up of World Challenge 09 will be announced in an awards ceremony held at The Hague, in the Netherlands. The awards ceremony will be broadcast on 5th December 2009 on BBC World News and announced on the website the same day and profiled in Newsweek magazine in issue date 21 Dec, on sale 14 Dec
What are they looking for? They are looking for your nominations for innovative projects or ideas. The ideas must demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit working for the benefit of the community whilst adopting a responsible approach. The rules are as follows;
- Projects / small business that show initiative, the innovative use of technology or an invention
- Projects / small business that increase investment into the local community
- Projects / small business that take a responsible approach to the environment in which they are operating
